Iran expresses satisfaction with Russia ties

Iran and Russia enjoy high-level cooperation on various regional and international issues and the two states have similar stances, Abbas Araqchi said.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

Araqchi described the US policies as wrong and praised Russia's policies towards Iranian nuclear deal, known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The US weakened diplomacy by violating the JCPOA which was a diplomatic achievement, he noted.

In the meantime, Ryabkov for his part underlined implementation of the Iranian nuclear deal.

He said that Moscow is doing its best to weaken the effect of the US sanctions on Iran by improving all-out ties with Tehran and implementation of the JCPOA.

Iran-Russia cooperation is of great importance for regional security and prosperity, the Russian official added.

The US President Donald Trump announced early May that Washington would pull out of Iran nuclear deal and reinstate sanctions which had been lifted under the accord.

The first round of the sanctions snapped back into place in August, with the second round which will aim the energy and oil sector taking effect on November 5.

This is while other signatories to the deal (i.e. Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia) have thus far criticized Washington's unilateral move and have repeatedly stressed their commitment to the deal.
