Iran Deputy FM: Nuclear deal needs firm gurantees to be kept

Abbas Araqchi made the remarks in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Ryabkov in Tehran on Thursday.

The talks were held two days after the US President Donald Trump pulled Washington out of the nuclear deal with Iran.

The latest developments in the status of the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and the ways of preserving it without US were the main subjects of the meeting.

'Iran will continue to talk with all European, Russian and Chinese parties to explore ways of keeping the deal alive,' Araqchi said.

The Russian officials in the meeting said that his country will remain committed to the deal and continue its cooperation with the other signatories to save the deal.

The nuclear agreement was signed by Iran and the major world powers in 2015. Under the deal Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief.

The other signatories to the deal—UK, France, Russia, China and Germany—have said that they will continue to enforce the deal.
