Iran, Cyprus should broaden parliamentary ties: Senior official

Ali Akbar Velayati, Head of the Strategic Research Center of Iran's Expediency Council, made the remarks in a meeting with visiting President of House of Representatives of Cyprus Demetris Syllouris.

The visit of the Cypriot parliamentary delegation to Iran can be a proper opportunity for both to boost ties in all areas, Velayati said.

Iran and Cyprus are situated in important positions in the world, said Velayati, adding the two should strengthen Asian-European, regional and bilateral cooperation.

For his part, the senior Cypriot lawmaker described Iran as an important and effective country in both the world and region.

He added his country is willing to widen ties with Iran which enjoys important strategic position.

The two also reviewed the banking and economic issues for further relations.
