Iran closely monitoring Sudan’s developments: FM spox

Mousavi urged the need for fulfillment of “legitimate demands” of Sudanese people and a peaceful transition of power.

The Iranian spokesman called for an end to any violent act, underlining the need to prevent any foreign intervention in the country.

Mousavi also urged an immediate transition of power to civilians, noting the country needs to correct its improper decisions made in the past such as dispatching Sudanese soldiers for “brother-killing in Yemen”.

Following over four months of popular protests in Sudan, the country’s Army issued a statement on April 11, confirming the overthrowing of President Omar al-Bashir after 30 years in power.

The statement announced three months of state of emergency in the country and appointed Defense Minister Awad Ibn Auf to rule the country for two years as the head of the transitional military council.

However the defense minister stepped down just a day later and was replaced by Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan.

Although al-Bashir has been toppled, Sudanese people still continue their protests fearing that the Army will seize their revolution.
