Iran anti-drugs police chief confers with EU, Balkan liaison officers

In a meeting with European and Balkan anti-drug liaison officers on Friday, Zahedian also highlighted the significance of technical, intelligence and operational cooperation between police liaison officers at the international level.

Zahedian is currently in Turkey heading a high-ranking Iranian delegation upon an invitation of the Turkish officials.

Over 3,700 Iranian anti-drugs police forces have been killed in fighting drugs traffickers and blocking transfer of narcotics to Europe and 12,000 have been seriously wounded during fierce clashes with drugs smugglers, said the official stressing that Tehran gives great importance to the fight against narcotic drugs based on its national resolve and religious beliefs.

Highlighting Iran’s pivotal role in fighting drugs trafficking, he voiced readiness of the Iranian police to boost cooperation with its counterparts in the region, Europe and the Balkans.

Iran’s police are prepared to organize meeting of anti-drug task police chiefs of Europe and the Balkans in Iran in a near future, Zahedian said.

Iranian police commander has earlier met with Turkish Anti-Drug Police Chief Adnam Ozdemir on Friday.

During the meeting, both commanders discussed significance of promoting ties between the Iranian and Turkish anti-drug task forces to beef up border controls and reinforce fighting with smuggling through exchanging intelligence and carrying out joint operations.

They also called for implementation of all contents of the mutual agreement on combating organized crimes signed by the two countries interior ministries in 2008, he said.

Zahedian also invited his Turkish counterpart to visit Iranian police’s capabilities and he welcomed it.
