European Council, European Commission congratulate Pres. on re-election

Dear President Rouhani,

We would like to offer our congratulations following your clear win in the recently-held presidential elections. We also extend these congratulations to the Iranian people for high turnout in the election.

Their participation demonstrates the willingness of the Iranian people to have an important say in the country’s political life.

We reiterate the European Union’s resolute commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which remains an important achievement of multilateral diplomacy, and our readiness to continue the joint work for its full and effective implementation. We hope that the years to come will enable further progress on our bilateral relations, including a swift opening of an EU Delegation in Tehran, as well as renewed steps for de-escalation and reconciliation in the region and for a peaceful resolution of conflicts. Finally we wish that your second mandate can contribute to meet the Iranian people’s aspirations, including an advancement of the civic and economic reforms as clearly endorsed by the Iranians’ vote,” concluded the letter.
