Envoy discusses with Syrian Bashar al-Jafari

It was the second round of talks between the two sides in the past three days.

The two sides held talks on the latest conditions of Syria as well as outcomes of the negotiations.

They also exchanged views on main points of the first day of intra-Syrian talks in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, with an aim to settle Syrian crisis through diplomacy.

In addition to Iran, Russia and Turkey, which sponsor the meeting, delegations from Syrian government and the armed groups, the UN secretary General Special Envoy for Syria, Stephan De Mistura, and the US Ambassador to Kazakhstan, George A. Krol, are participating in the meeting.

The main topic of the two-day meeting is to set a document to strengthen and stabilize ceasefire in Syria.

The three countries, which reached agreement in Moscow on December 29, are to establish a committee to control and observe ceasefire in Syria as guarantors of the agreement.

On the last day of the meeting in Astana, participating delegations hold bilateral meetings.

Stephan De Mistura is expected to read joint statement of the meeting, confirmed by Iran, Russia and Turkey, at the end of general session on Tuesday afternoon.

Russian Foreign Ministry has declared that Astana meeting serves as a prelude to resumption of peace talks in Geneva, which is supposed to begin on February 8, 2017, under supervision of the UN.
