Envoy calls for shaping new security order in region

In an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency, he pointed to big challenges that the region is encountering, and said, 'It is inevitable that (regional) countries change their approach and accept the realities on the ground.'

'We believe that establishment of security in the region is only possible through participation of regional states and without foreign powers' interference,' the envoy added.

Fathali pointed to accusations against the Islamic Republic and that 'Iran's security doctrine is defensive' and based on power of deterrence.

Answering a question regarding the role of popular forces in the region security, he said the popular forces, including Lebanese Hezbollah and Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU or Hashd al-Shaabi) in Iraq are in complete coordination with their governments and have reinforced government authority.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he criticized the West and Israeli occupying regimes' security strategies for the region and noted that 'Zionist regime is the major source of security threats at the regional level'.
