
During the meeting, the two sides called for the ceasefire in Syria to be continued and they also examined latest regional and international developments.
The two sides described the ceasefire agreement in the country as a prelude to restoration of peace and security in Syria which is going to be achieved through continued struggle with terrorism and preparing suitable grounds for resumption of the Syrian-Syrian talks.
The Syrian president underlined the positive role of the Islamic Republic of Iran for its support of the Syrian people resistance and their fight against terrorists.
Assad also urged on finding a political solution to guarantee the country’s territorial integrity and national unity.
Abdollahian, on his part, said that Iran’s all-out support for Syria remains to be Tehran's invariable principle which has its base in strategic ties between the two countries.
Iran believes that the terrorism which has targeted Syria in fact has targeted all nations in the region, he said.
Hossein Amir Abdollahian is now in Syria on a two-day official visit.
The Iranian official has also met with the Syrian foreign minister and parliament speaker to discuss issues of mutual interests as well as regional developments.
