The Syrian nation and government through Iran's spiritual and economic support could resist the plots of the enemies'and global arrogance, Bassam Abu Abdallah, director of the Center for Strategic Studies in Damascus, told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in an exclusive interview.
Appreciating Iran's economic, military and political support for Syria, Abdallah said Tehran's media activities in backing Damascus has had a leading role in expansion of brotherly and friendly relations between the two nations.
On the May 21 anti-Iran remarks by the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the Syrian official said Pompeo's words proved Tehran's powerful position, because Washington never threatens a weak country.
Asked whether Tehran and Damascus will end military cooperation after eradication of terrorists in Syria, Abdallah said the defense cooperation between the two countries is continuous and dynamic.
They are not allowed to meddle in the internal affairs of Iran and Syria as the two countries do not interfere in the internal affairs of the US and certain regional countries with which it has broad military cooperation, he stressed.
On the axis of resistance, the Syrian official said the Resistance needs continuation of military and defense cooperation between Iran and Syria.
Syria has been facing unrest since March 2011.
