Cultural diplomacy to boost Iranian-Azerbaijani nations: Iranian official

“The two nations of Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan are close to each other due to historical, cultural and religious commonalities,” Iran’s visiting Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Hossein Entezami said Monday in a meeting with Azerbaijan Minister of Culture and Tourism Abolfas Garayev in Baku.

Pointing to the importance Iran attaches to its ties with Azerbaijan, he asserted that his visit goals to the country is to explore ways of expanding media relations between the two countries.

Boosting media ties and exchanging media representatives will also contribute to tourism and economic cooperation between Baku and Tehran, he noted.

Meanwhile, the Azerbaijani minister pointing to his recent visit to Iran, described the two countries’ ties as an important step in expanding cultural cooperation.

“Iran-Azerbaijan cooperation in international organizations to preserve joint cultural heritage of the Iranian and Azerbaijani peoples has resulted in registration of Norouz and Lavash bread in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO),' Garayev said.

The Iranian delegation arrived in Baku on Monday and met with some media authorities, including head of the state news agency Azertac.
