Expressing her views in the meeting of the Special Committee for Creation of Asian Parliament (SCCAP) in Islamabad, Fatemeh Zolghadr said Iran supports the idea for the establishment of Asian Parliament.
She was hopeful that present forum would be able to provide a more realistic solution for creating integration among Asian Parliaments through consultation and exchange of views.
“Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the idea for the establishment of Asian Parliament belongs to all Asian nations and member parliaments, and the Asian Parliamentary Forum plays an important role in promoting this idea,” she noted.
The Iranian lawmaker added an important issue the creation of Asian Parliament is facing is diversity of parliaments in Asia.
“There are also considerable countries where parliaments are formed without any popular votes. Such an idea is inconsistent with establishing an Asian Parliament where people’s votes are necessarily required,” she pointed out.
The Iranian MP added comparing Asian parliaments with European ones, also causes some problems.
Counting another problem, she said formation of an Asian Parliament requires the acceptance and agreement of the governments and people of all Asian countries which is a time-consuming process.
Fatemeh Zolghadr appreciated the efforts of Pakistan’s Senate in holding the meetings for establishing the Asian Parliament.
Meeting of Special Committee on Creation of Asian Parliament (SCCAP) and APA Standing Committee on Political Affairs (SCPA) kicked off in Islamabad on Tuesday.
