China underlines Iran’s key role in Syria

Speaking in a press conference, Xie Xiaoyan stressed China's desire for cooperation with Iran and said, “We should strive for stabilization of ceasefire and fighting terrorism in Syria, while dispatching humanitarian aid and contributing to political transfer, there.”

Situation in Syria is improving, Xiaoyan noted.

He pointed to recent efforts of Iran, Russia and Turkey for establishment of comprehensive ceasefire in Syria and noted that direct talks between Syrian government and the opposition in recent Astana talks was a big success.

The official voiced hope for presence of all sides in the upcoming talks in Geneva and noted that resolution of a complicated issue like Syria needs collective effort.

He urged all sides in the region to help success of Geneva talks on Syria.

“Terrorism is our common enemy and it is big threat against the world and region,” Xiaoyan underlined.

He said, “Terrorism is a big problem on the way of resolution of Syria crisis and ceasefire in the region.”

To a question by IRNA regarding Beijing stance on the US policy in Syria, the envoy voiced hope that the US will play a constructive role in the region.

He called for fighting all the terrorists put in the UN Security Council list and urged avoiding double standards on fighting e terrorism.

The official voiced hope that all sides of the conflict will give up hatred and do their best for establishment of peace and stability in the region.

The UN should play pivotal role in resolution of Syria crisis, Xiaoyan added.
