18 Iranian prisoners extradited from Iraq

The prisoners were extradited in the third phase of inmate extradition attended by several Iranian judicial and security officials in Shalamcheh border crossing in the southwestern province of Khouzestan.

Thanks to the two countries' consular offices' efforts for extradition of inmates, the transfer has been done in accordance with an agreement signed between Iran and Iraq.

The convicted prisoners will arry out the rest of their prison sentence in Iran.

There are a number of Iraqi prisoners in Iran but they have not submitted request to be transferred to Iraq.

As per the memorandum of understanding inked between Iran and Iraq, the two countries' prisoners swap will be conducted based on the prisoners' personal inclination and request.
