Uzbek FM calls for Iran academic, scientific expertise

Kamilov, during his meeting with Iran's Vice President for Scientific and Technological Affairs Sourena Sattari, said that his visit to Tehran is taking place to follow up what was agreed upon during the meeting [In Astana] between Presidents of the two countries.

He expressed hope that such exchanges of visits to open a new chapter in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Announcing President Hassan Rouhani's imminent visit to Uzbekistan and the establishment of two joint commissions in the near future, Kamilov said that Iran and Uzbekistan share common history, traditions, experience and even common mentalities.

The two countries should make optimal use of their commonalities, he said.

Sattari, for his part, said that despite historical and cultural commonalities between Iran and Uzbekistan, unfortunately, the two nations have failed to develop an appropriate mutual understanding.

Promotion of academic cooperation is the best way for furthering such an understanding, the Iranian official said.

We can rely on the academic infrastructures we have developed in Iran to foster mutual cooperation between the two nations, he said.

Sattari also offered the Uzbek officials to send a delegation to visit Assalouyeh, the biggest gas field in the world in southern Iran, to get acquainted with the Islamic Republic's technological advancements and at the same time to explore possible grounds for conducting joint projects in the field of energy.

Iran achieved self-sufficiency in most of the oil and gas technologies and as Uzbekistan is home to big gas fields, it can use Iran's experience in the field of CNG production, he said.
