'We are in talks with an Iranian mobile operator because we want to have three such operators in Syria,' said Communication Minister Iyad al-Khatib on Tuesday while addressing the parliament.
“We will give more details to the Syrians soon,” he added without elaborating more.
There are currently two mobile operators in Syria: MTN and Syriatel. However, communication and internet services have failed to meet the rising demand.
The Syrian minister was answering questions about bad mobile connection and weak Internet signals across the country.
Al-Khatib says he wants mobile internet to reach 1.6 million Syrians from the actual 1.4 million people.
