Pakistan must quit SAARC; enhance ties with Iran, Russia, China: Business expert

In an article published in Pakistan print media, Majyd Aziz said that Pakistan must announce unilateral suspending of membership in SAARC since the regional bloc has proved to be of little advantage.

Pakistan does not have good memory of SAARC and one of top politician of the country, Mushahid Hussain Syed has already proposed a creation of a new regional organization as a “stronger SAARC” including regional powers like Pakistan, China, Iran and some other regional countries.

The expert said that Pakistan instead of joining trade blocs must focus on trade with major countries of the region to get the maximum benefit.

He said Pakistan should not take active part in any organization under the SAARC umbrella, such as SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Instead, Pakistan must concentrate on connectivity with China, Russia, Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asian states, through multilateral and bilateral means.
