In an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Muhammad Amin Lasania, who was in Tehran to participate in Iran’s international tiles, ceramic and sanitary exhibition from July 9-12, said that it was a useful visit and helped Pakistani manufacturers to explore the Iranian market.
He said that about 50 Pakistani traders from APTSMA went to Iran to participate in the exhibition on the invitation of the Iranian Consulate in Karachi.
“It was a constructive tour and helped us in exploring the Iranian market,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention that tiles and ceramics are Iran’s second most exported commodity to Pakistan after bitumen and oil. Pakistan’s demand for tiles and ceramics stands at 100 million square meters per year, of which only 20 million square meters are produced domestically.
Iran and Pakistan have already agreed to enhance the bilateral trade volume to $ 5 billion in next five years.
Muhammad Amin Lasania expressing his views said that scope of trade ties between Iran and Pakistan is very high and it is good that the bilateral trade has been witnessing a positive growth.
He said that lack of banking channel between Iran and Pakistan is hampering the direct trade between the two countries. “We want to see the implementation of banking agreement signed between the two countries as early as possible,” he said.
He was confident that Iran and Pakistan would be able to overcome the problems which are hampering their trade.
President APTSMA added that Pakistani traders after attending the exhibition went to Yazd to see the factories of tiles and ceramic products.
“We also visited Yazd Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture and had useful discussions with the Iranian traders on promotion of bilateral trade ties,” he said.
Muhammad Amin Lasania said that Iranian tiles are high in quality and their price is very reasonable and that is why Pakistani consumers are interested in Iranian tiles and ceramics.
