An Iraqi Kurdish negotiator participating in talks with the American treasury delegation told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in Erbil that the US Treasury delegation is doing all its efforts to prevent Iran from increasing its influence in Iraq and the region, but their efforts are in vain.
'We informed them that there is a strong historical relationship between Iraq and Iran, and those efforts will not make any result,' the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
He added, 'We have told the Americans that you have tried to cut off your relations with Mexico by erecting wall, which is your neighbor, but failed. Now want to cut the relations between Iraq and Iraq.'
A delegation from the American Treasury Department with the presence in Iraq is trying to exert pressure on Iraq to reduce trade and economic exchanges with Iran.
