Asgari made the remarks speaking during a meeting in the western Iranian province of Ilam on border relations between Iran and Iraq.

Iran and Iraq have always had active trade ties with each other, Asgari said.

'Despite all the capacities and proper security at Mehran border terminal, we are witnessing a sharp drop in Iranian exports to Iraq through the terminal,' the official added.

Iran's exports to Iraq via Mehran border terminal declined to less than 500,000 tons from 4 million tons a year ago.
