Iran's role in global energy market important: Veep

'Islamic Republic of Iran has an important role in determining policies for enhanced gas exports and the global energy market,' Eshaq Jahangiri told reporters upon arrival in Bolivia to attend the Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

He referred to gas pricing and market security measures and said that the role of natural gas in the future energy market is growing.

Commenting on Iran and Latin American relations, he said 'Latin America is one of top priorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran's foreign policy.'

Jahangiri arrived in Bolivia early Friday and was welcomed by the Bolivian Foreign Minister Fernando Huanacuni Mamani.

The Fourth Gas Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum opened in Bolivia on November 20 and will continue until November 24.

Jahangiri is scheduled to brief the participants on Iran's measures to boost its economy, particularly in the energy sector.

The GECF was founded in 2008 with the purpose of making coordination in production, exports and controlling the price of natural gas.

Iran, Algeria, Bolivia, Tropical Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the UAE and Venezuela constitute the member-states of the GECF which holds 42% of global gas production as well as 70% of world gas reserves.

The 2nd GECF Gas Summit was hosted by the Iranian capital, Tehran in 2014.
