Iran, Uzbekistan to resume direct flights

Per an agreement, the two countries will lay the groundwork for resumption of direct flights, Uzbek Daily wrote on Saturday.

Iran's Ambassador to Uzbekistan Bahman Agharazi Dormani and Deputy Uzbek Foreign Minister Dilshod Akhatov were signatories to the agreement that was signed in Tashkent on 18 January.

Tehran and Tashkent attempt to establish direct flight routes to facilitate travel and increase trade, whose value was nearly $ 500 million.

Also during the meeting, the two officials agreed to hold the next round of political disucssions at the Foreign Ministry level in Tehran. However, no exact timeframe has been set for these talks.

Iran recognised Uzbekistan's independence on 25 December 1991. Diplomatic relations between the two were held on 10 May 1992.
