“All the five ECO rail corridors traverse Iran,” said Nourollah Beiranvand on Monday evening in the 234th Council of Permanent Representatives (CPR) held in Iran’s northern city of Sari, Mazandaran Province.
“Although some corridors like Iran - Turkmenistan - Kazakhstan are funded by bodies outside ECO, the future projects should be supported by the internal investment,” he added.
He pointed to the insufficient investment on building and renovating the infrastructure, some members’ old fleet and political and security issues as the main challenges of the expansion of ECO railway network.
The two-day meeting of ECO Council of Permanent Representatives is underway in Sari with the attendance of ambassadors and representatives of 10 members including Iran.
