Iran, Turkmenistan resume gas swap

Zamani-nia, who accompanied President Rouhani in his visit to Turkmenistan on March 27-29, said that last January Iran ceased gas swap of Turkmenistan because of its low quality and then by holding talks between the two presidents, it resumed since March 28, 2018.

He called Turkmenistan as ' Strategic Partner' of Iran and added that Petroleum Ministry has already declared its readiness to Turkmenistan for long-term cooperation in the sector of energy as well as joint export to India, Pakistan and littoral states of the Persian Gulf.

He underlined that settlement process for gas dispute between Iran and Turkmenistan was started by positive view of the two presidents with the aim to expand energy relations between the two countries.

Talks to achieve common understanding are continuing upon both presidents, Zamani-nia said.

He also confirmed receiving Turkmenistan's proposal to develop three gas fields in the Caspian Sea, and said that the proposal is being positively viewed.

Turkmenistan gas is being swapped to Azerbaijan Republic through Iran.
