Iran, Turkey to hold joint banking meeting

Valiollah Seif, who is visiting Turkey to participate in the Meeting of the Central Banks and Monetary Authorities of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Members, met with his Pakistani and Turkish counterparts.

He also held talks with Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister, during which the two sides agreed to hold a special banking meeting to be attended by officials of their Central Banks, including the top bankers.

The meeting is scheduled to be held before the visit by Turkish President to Tehran, slated for October.

At their meeting, governors of the Turkish and Iranian Central Banks signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for enhanced banking ties.

Meanwhile, Seif and governor of Pakistan's Central Bank Tariq Bajwa met to review quick implementation of the already signed MoU. The two sides agreed to start using local currencies within the next two weeks and open a branch of Bank Melli Iran (BMI) in the Pakistani city of Karachi.

The Meeting of the Central Banks and monetary Authorities of the (OIC) Member Countries, September 21-22, was hosted by Turkey's Central Bank and was attended by monetary officials of the member countries.
