Director says Airbus restoring ties with Iran after four decades

Speaking in a ceremony here on the Thursday to mark the landing of Iran's first purchased aircraft from Airbus in post-sanctions era, Brégier said the Airbus 'A321' which landed in Tehran's international airport today meets the highest facility standards existing for passenger planes.

'Iran air fleet is capable of not only pioneering in Western Asia aerial industries but could have a distinguished place in world markets as well,' he said.

'The cooperation between Iran Air and Airbus dates back to year 1356 according to the Iranian calendar (March 21, 1977- March 20, 1978) when the Iranian company ordered 6 wide body Airbus 'A300',' he added.

'The two companies will also cooperate in training pilots, airport operations and air traffic management,' he noted.

'Based on the agreement with Iran Air, Airbus Company is to deliver some 100 aircraft to Iran with due technical support to follow,' Brégier said.

Iran's first purchased Airbus 'A321' in the post-sanction era landed in the capital's Mehrabad International Airport on Thursday morning.

This is the first 190-Airbus Iran receives according to a contract which had been signed by President Hassan Rouhani during his visit to Paris last year. Upon finalization of the contract, Iran Air is to purchase 100 planes from Airbus, the first of which arrived in Iran today.
