"Given the Business Secretary's focus on the steel industry, he (Javid) has decided to postpone his trip to Iran," a spokesman from the business department said on Tuesday as cited by Reuters.
"He remains committed to exploring the opportunities for trade and investment with this emerging market and an alternative date will be arranged in due course,” he added.
India's Tata group announced plans to sell its entire UK steel operation in March, reportedly leaving the government battling to save an industry that has been hurt by cheap Chinese imports, soaring costs and weak demand.
Javid was supposed to lead a huge delegation of British businessman to Iran in May in a bid to explore business opportunities in the Islamic Republic following the removal of anti-Tehran sanctions.
The sanctions were terminated after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14, 2015 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program and started implementing it on January 16.
