Astana supports Tehran’s membership in SCO

Abdrakhmanov made the remarks in a meeting held in the Kazakh capital on Saturday evening with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour.

The Kazakh foreign minister, in the meeting, described the economic agreements valued at one billion dollar between the two countries as important and also as an indication of the two nations’ will to broaden economic cooperation.

About the bilateral ties within the framework of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the top Kazakh diplomat said that OIC members’ cooperation in the area of the modern technologies is an important question, adding Iran as a pioneer in that area is well capable of helping Kazakhstan hold the OIC summit, Abdrakhmanov noted.

For his part, Rahimpour expressed satisfaction over the growing economic relations between Tehran and Astana.

Rahimpour further stressed the importance of implementation of mutual agreements in the fields of transit, rail transport, energy and agriculture.

Referring to several regional summits to be held in Kazakhstan in 2017, Rahimpour said that Iran endeavors to attend them.

Iran’s Rahimpour has travelled to Astana to take part in a ceremony on marking the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Iran and Kazakhstan.

In Astana, he is also due to hold political consultations with the Kazakh officials.
