UNIC Chief praises IRNA

Maria Dotsenko praised IRNA for organizing a photo exhibition and historical documents on cooperation between the United Nations and Iran across the country on the World Peace Day, held at the ECO Cultural Institute on Sunday.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Exhibition of Photo and Historic Documents on the Iran-UN cooperation late Saturday, Dotsenko said one of the initiatives of Iran was Dialogue among Civilizations, which was supported by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), as the year 2001 was designated as the ‘Year of Dialogue among Civilizations’.

Among other initiatives of Iran was President Hassan Rouhani’s proposal ‘World Against Violence and Extremism’ which was also supported by the United Nations General Assembly, she added.

In June 2018, Iran was selected as one of the main six pillars of the United Nations in the UNGA’s Economy and Social Council, said the UNIC official.

As to the ongoing exhibition, the official said the event, organized by IRNA and Foreign Ministry, indicates 72-year history of cooperation between Iran and the United Nations.

Iran was among the first group of the UN member states to call on the organization in 1950 to set up the UNIC in Tehran, Dotsenko said.
