Mohammad-Reza Kargar said in an interview with the IRNA on the sidelines of a visit to the Shahnameh pottery museum in Saad al-Saltaneh House of Qazvin on Wednesday, 'The oldest artifact kept in the museums are old stone tools which date as back as 800,000 years. They were discovered in the archeological discoveries in the northeast of Khorasan.'
He stated that there are 600 museums in the country, half of them owned and affiliated with the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, noting that 300 other museums are devoted to people as well as to various institutions and organizations.
Director General of the Museums and Historical Properties Department at the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization said that in 2017, 19,000,000 people visited museums of the Organization and this year we predict 15 percent add to the figure.
