Systematic economic structure peculiar to Sassanid architecture

The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted head of the archeological team Reza Norouzi as saying that the site was one of the important areas at the time of the Sassanid dynasty in the Bishapour Province which was unfortunately destroyed as a result of gas transmission operations from Kazeroun to Shiraz in the middle of 1980s.

“The result of the field studies in the first season was architecture of the late Sassanid era with the application of warehouse, workshop and administrative purposes,” he said.

Nouri said that the archaeological study aimed at understanding the different settlement phases in the Sassanid era, finding the new spaces related to the previous spaces, searching for the continuation of the walls and the spaces unearthed in the previous season.

“Clay works were the most abundant archeological findings in that location,' he noted, adding that in addition to the clay containers, stone tools and dishes such as the grindstone, oilstone, etc. have also been found.

Nouri said the discovery of clay crocks full of dates lends further proof to the fact that in the Sassanid era irrigation-based agriculture was commonly practiced at a massive span of Bishapour Province,” Norouzi said.

The archaeologist said the architectural findings in this season of exploration, include small and regular spaces in adobe, plaster and stone materials which were mostly used as the storage.

The archaeologist noted that additional studies are being conducted on the findings of the second season the result of which will be published soon.
