In a meantime, the internationally acclaimed Iranian director and two-time Oscar winner, Asghar Farhadi, who presided over the jury of the official competition this year, also received Parajanov’s Thaler, an honorary award for his outstanding artistic contribution to the world cinema.
Prior to Farhadi, Wim Wenders was also honored with Parajanov's Thaler award.
Wenders (born 14 August 1945) is a German filmmaker, playwright, author, photographer, and a major figure in New German Cinema. Among many honors, he has received three nominations for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature: for Buena Vista Social Club (1999), about Cuban music culture, Pina (2011), about the contemporary dance choreographer Pina Bausch, and The Salt of the Earth (2014), about Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado.
One of Wenders' earliest honors was a win for the BAFTA Award for Best Direction for his narrative drama Paris, Texas (1984), which also won the Palme d'Or at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival. Many of his subsequent films have also been recognized at Cannes, including Wings of Desire (1987), for which Wenders won the Best Director Award at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.
Wenders has been the president of the European Film Academy in Berlin since 1996. Alongside filmmaking, he is an active photographer, emphasizing images of desolate landscapes. He is considered to be an auteur director.
“Yeva” directed by Nahid Abad received the Armenian National Film Academy Award for Best Film.
In addition, the film brought the film’s star Shant Hovhannisyan the Sos Sargsyan Award for Best Actor.
Directed by Abolfazl Saffari, “Sunset Truck” won the Hrant Matevosyan Award for Best Script.
Both films were screened in Armenian Panorama, a non-official section of the festival that took place in the Armenian capital from July 8 to 15.
Co-written by Saffari and Sajjad Afsharian, “Sunset Truck” is about an Iranian family that have been running a camp for desert lovers for many years. Business is gradually drying when Arash, the youngest son, comes up with a novel idea. Through his skillful use of Facebook, he attracts new visitors to the camp with the promise of providing the most beautiful sunsets anywhere in the world.
Business takes off again. However, other problems quickly arise.
Farhadi’s drama “Everybody Knows” also was displayed during the festival in Yerevan and he held a master class on the sideline of the festival.

Starring the Oscar-winning Spanish couple, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, the film has been shot entirely in Spanish on the Iberian Peninsula, ICN wrote.
It is about Laura, who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together to her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.
“Everybody Knows” is Farhadi’s second film shot outside of his homeland. In 2012, he directed “The Past” in French in Paris. “The Past” brought its star, Berenice Bejo, the Palme d’Or for best actress in 2013.
Farhadi’s Oscar-winning movie “The Salesman” won him the award for best screenplay for this movie at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in 2016. It also brought Shahab Hosseini the Palme d’Or for best actor.
