'All parts of Shadegan international weterland are affected by the flood water and the lagoon is in excellent condition,' Shadegan's head of Department of Environment Rahim Mojaddami said in an Interview with IRNA.
He added that the amount of water entering the lagoon during the recent flood was so much that we had to direct a portion of the water to the Persian Gulf, to reduce the flood effects.
Shadegan International Lagoon is one of the greatest wetlands in Iran. This Lagoon is located in the south of Shadegan County in Khuzestan Province.
In the conference of wetlands held in Ramsar, it was decided that the three wetlands of Shadegan, Musa Estuary and Alamieh Estuary should be known as Shadegan lagoon.
Located 52km from Abadan and 105km from Ahvaz, it is Iran’s largest wetland. Linking Jarahi River to Persian Gulf waters, the wetland is considered one of the most wonderful natural attractions of the world because of its unique biodiversity.
