Persian language in Serbia paves ground for boosting ties with Iran

Referring to political, economic and cultural relations between Iran and Serbia, Hossein Mollaabdollahi said, 'Currently, more than 220 students are studying the language at Belgrade University.'

The remarks were made at the meeting between Iranian expatriates residing in Serbia and the former's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The minister visited Serbia as a part of his Eastern Europe and Balkan tour on Wednesday.

'The eagerness for learning Persian in Eastern Europe and Balkan in general and in Serbia in particular is unprecedented,' he said, adding that it is 'a good, serious ground for promoting relations'.

Efforts made for promotion of Persian language at the university has laid grounds for promotion of relations in other spheres, so that it is now considered as a prelude for boosting bilateral ties, especially in tourism and economy, he said.

Persian language is taught at Belgrade University in the form of two elective units. Given the increasing interest of students to the subject, creating an independent course of Persian language is on the agenda of the university.
