Over 2,500 foreigners receive pension from SSO

Ahmad-Reza Khazaei, SSO director general for foreign nationals affairs, said on Sunday that the foreign pensioners of the Organization are from Iraq, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Germany, Turkey, Afghanistan, India, the United States, Azerbaijan Republic, the UK, Italy, Philippines, Lebanon, France, the Netherland, Kuwait, Canada, Switzerland, Japan and Malaysia.

Iraq, with 1,390 pensioners, has the biggest number of foreign pensioners in Iran, Khazaei said.

Afghanistan and India, with 903 and 126 pensioners respectively, follow Iraq as the second and third countries whose nationals receive pension from the Iranian insurer, the official added.

Article 5 of a 1975 Social security Law stipulates that insurance services shall be rendered to foreign nationals just like Iranian nationals, Khazaei said.

He said that the provisions of Article 5 had been neglected for forty years until 2015 during which just 3,300 foreign nationals working in Iran received insurance services.

After SSO’s foreign national department was launched in 2015, providing insurance coverage to foreign nationals was seriously discussed so that now nearly 42,500 foreign nationals working in Iran receive insurance services, Khazaei said, adding that given their dependents, the number rises to 82,000 people.
