Makran coast development reminiscent of maritime civilization

He made the remarks in a closing ceremony for 'water diplomacy and hydro-politics opportunity in west of Asia' conference in Kharazmi University.

Sayyari said that in case of development of Chabahar and Jusk ports south-north corridor will be launched and this could be a big capacity for sea-axes development of the country.

The commander underlined that having coast for a country could be a threat and an opportunity as well.

He pointed to the importance of seas, and said that more than 90 percent of the world trade is handling through seas and it is the cheapest method in transporting goods in the world.

He added that the largest port in the region is in Dubai and our goods goes there first and then carried to Iran, while Jusk and Chabahar could have such position, but unfortunately because of maritime colonialism we got far from water for many years.

The commander said being close to the sea could be a source of might for countries with water resources, and unfortunately colonial powers tried for many years to keep us away from sea.

He expressed the hope that country's statesmen have more concentration on coast development.

Sayyari said that Iran has common border with 3 countries, water border with 8 and four states with both water and land borders and added that around 93 percent of Iran's export, 83 percent of import are through sea and only 7 percent take place through land borders.

He underlined the role and importance of the region both geo-politically and geo-strategically, and said that Iran is in a region with the most volume of world exchanges through sea with rich energy resources, which could be elements for power and wealth.
