
Manchevski made the remarks on the sidelines of the 36th edition of Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) currently underway in Tehran.
He added the Iranian cinema has achieved many success only not at home but also across the globe.
Describing the FIFF as a huge cinematic event, he said: 'I usually watch Iranian films.'
He also said he is a fan of Iranian traditional music.
The New York Times included Manchevski's film 'Before the Rain' (1994) in its Guide to the Best 1,000 Films Ever Made list.
Manchevski’s work also includes the films 'Dust' (2001), 'Shadows' (2007), 'Mothers' (2010), 'Bikini Moon' (2017), as well as the shorts 'The End of Time' (2017), 'Thursday' (2013), 'Macedonia Timeless' (2009), 'Tennesse' (1991) and '1:73' (1984).
Manchevski has organized two exhibitions on photography and works of fiction.
His work had more than 250 festival screenings (including Venice, Berlin, Toronto, São Paulo, Istanbul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Stockholm, etc. His films have been distributed in more than 50 countries.
His work has been included in the curricula of numerous universities and has been the subject of two academic conferences (in Firenza and Leipzig); he holds an Honorary Doctorate from Moscow's VGIK.
He teaches at the Feirstein Graduate School at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York.
His previous teaching positions include Shanghai University in China, VGIK in Moscow, EICTV in Cuba, University of Valladolid, Institute of Advanced Studies Hungary and the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University.
Presided over by writer-director Reza Mirkarimi, the 36th edition of Fajr International Film Festival will continue until April 27.
The event organizers expect to receive over 300 special guests from around the world, ranging from filmmakers to screenwriters, actors to activists.
A host of A-listers is legendary Italian actor Franco Nero and influential American film director Oliver Stone.
