Vali Teymouri, deputy head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, told Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that the number of non-Iranian tourists who visited the attractions also increased by 31 percent this year.
More than 64,052 foreign tourists visited Iran's attractions during the first three days of Nowruz (March 21-23).
Nowruz is the national holidays in Iran that marks the country's New Year coincided with the beginning of spring.
Teymouri said that the unprecedented flood might have affected the number of tourists, arguing that more people were expected to visit the attractions if the disaster would not hit various provinces of Iran.
Iran, a four-season country, has been ranked one of the top ten attractive places in the world. In addition to numerous historical, religous and natural must-see-sites, the Middle Eastern country is regarded as one of the medical hubs in the region and a large number of people visit the country every year for medical tourism.
