Iran’s national team wins decisively by new coach

Iranian national football team faced Syria on a friendly match at the Azadi Stadium on Thursday night and with an offensive tactic won a decisive victory and launched a promising start under its Belgian coach.

Head coach of Iran’s national football team Wilmots said that qualifying for World Cup and recruiting young players were among his primary goals as new coach of the country's national team.

"I believe that holding meetings provides good opportunity to assess my players and get information on their physical fitness," Wilmots said on Wednesday addressing a press conference on the visit of Iranian and Syrian national teams at the Azadi Stadium.

According to Wilmots, Iran's upcoming matches with South Korean and Syrian team had been coordinated before his arrival in Iran. He said that these two games will provide good opportunities for becoming acquainted with the football players.

The coach went on to say, "Our players are not in ideal conditions, but the two games are good, and we all like to enter the pitch and show our ability."

Saying he is a coach who loves the possession of the ball and impose the game on the opponent, Iran's new head coach said, "With this method, we can create good scoring positions by controlling the game."

He underscored that “I like offensive playing and I followed this style in Belgium and Ivory Coast".

Answering how he has chosen his players, the coach reiterated, "It's natural that whenever you do not know a country, you have to go back to history, and I'm not an exception, and that's why I referred to the squad to the World Cup and the AFC’s tournaments".
