In his message, Masjedi expressed hope that during Barzani’s tenure cooperation between Iran and Kurdistan Region will promote more than ever.
He also wished success for Barzani in his new post.
Barzani was elected as the new head of Iraqi Kurdistan Region on Tuesday, winning 68 votes out of the total 111 votes cast by the Members of Parliament.
Despite some opposition in Kurdistan Region, his election was widely welcome both in Iraq and all across the region.
Until two years ago, Masoud Barzani was the head of Kurdistan Regional Government. He was forced to quit after public discontent increased following his failed attempt in holding a separatist referendum in 2017. Ever since, Kurdistan Region has been led by the prime minister and the parliament.
