Iran present at VII St. Petersburg Intl Cultural Forum

Iran is represented by Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Abbass Salehi, who arrived in Moscow on Thursday to take part in the event, expected to be wrapped up on November 17.

Olga Golodets, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, told the inaugural session of the meeting in the State Hermitage Museum that presence of officials from many countries in the meeting shows that Saint Petersburg is accepted as the cultural capital of Russia.

She said 35,000 people have registered in 14 sections and progressive cultural experts have sponsored the sections.

Golodets hoped that the seminar will open a new venue for outstanding cultural works leading to progress of mankind.

Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Rostislavovich Medinsky told the meeting that such programs raise by 30 percent the share of Russians, who have been visiting museums over recent years.

More that 35,000 from 150 countries are in the Russian northwestern city to attend the forum, which features educational, tourism, cinema, arts and museum study programs.

Round table meetings will also be held on the sidelines of the cultural event as actors, artists and officials from many countries will exchange meetings and sign cooperation agreements.

Iran's Salehi will address the forum, and is also scheduled to visit the State Hermitage Museum.

Iran's Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaie is also present at the event.

While in Russia, Salehi will meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Rostislavovich Medinsky and other officials.

The St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum annually attracts thousands of experts in the field of culture from all over the world: stars of theater, opera and ballet, renowned directors and musicians, public figures, representatives of authorities and business and academic communities.

The Forum is organized by the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Russian Federation.

The mission of the Forum is to form the key vectors of the development of culture as a progressive force that brings the constructive origin into life of Russia and of the world community as a whole.

The Forum is developing in three directions at the same time. A large-scale business program will be of interest to specialists in different areas of culture.

The festival program includes multiple cultural events for city residents and guests of St. Petersburg. The business platform creates conditions for implementing projects and signing agreements in the field of culture. Year after year, the Forum has been expanding the number of events and the number of experts and guests at the highest level.

This year, there will be a large-scale professional and public flow program, with a number of Russian and international premieres of shows, concerts, exhibitions and many other events for various audiences.

Guest countries of the VII St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum will present their business and cultural programs and various theme programs, such as the Festival of Festivals.

During the Forum, the National Library of Russia organizes the symposium 'Information. Society. Development: international ties of the libraries'. Cooperation issues, joint project activities, and the role of libraries in international cultural exchange will be among the major discussion topics at this Symposium.
