Iran-Lebanon nat’l libraries ready to develop ties

Speaking in an exclusive interview with IRNA, Gelnare Atoui Saad elaborated on Lebanon's readiness to establish cooperation with Iran, saying there is no limitation for Lebanese National Library to maintain cooperation with other countries.

She reiterated that negotiations should be held on the major grounds of cooperation.

Atoui Saad expressed interest in taking advantage of digital and electronic versions of other national libraries namely those of National Library of Iran.

She referred to exchange of important collections which are in relation to Lebanon and the Islamic World as the most important grounds of cooperation.

She added that Iran and Lebanon will also be able to have cooperation in directory of books and research.

Both countries will be able to have cooperation for promoting human resources, restoration of books and manuscripts, Atoui Saad said.

Pointing to the existence of about 300,000 editions including books, newspapers, journals and maps in Lebanese National Library, she extended readiness for ceding showcase to Iran to display Iranian works.

According to Lebanese library website, since 2007, and upon the Minister of Culture's recommendation, the Lebanese Government has taken on the responsibility for financing the Revival Project of the Lebanese National Library, in continuation of the Rehabilitation Project funded by the European Union from 2003 to 2006.
