'Saving the umbilical cord blood is only done in Tehran, and so far, 110,000 cord blood samples have been stored in the country, which is the largest capacity in the Middle East,' Managing Director of Royan Stem Cell Technology Company affiliated to Royan Institute of Jihad University Morteza Zarrabi said at the opening ceremony of the umbilical cord blood bank of the city of Saveh at the center of the Jihad University on Monday.
He predicted that next year, 20,000 specimens will be added to the volume of cord blood reserves in the country.
According to the official, in addition to the issuance of technical knowledge, the export of umbilical cord blood derived stem cells is one of the main goals of the embryonic center of the country, which can inject significant foreign currency.
