Governor hopes for reopening Serro border point with Turkey

Hassankhani made the remarks in meeting with Turkish consul general in Orumiyeh Mehmet Bulut.

He said that reopening of the Serro border could be possible by cooperation and interaction of officials from both sides and may promote daily trade exchanges between the two countries.

Iran has always underlined security in the region and tranquility in neighboring states, the governor added that Iran respect Turkish people desire.

The Turkish diplomat thanked Iran for friendly stance vis-a-vis the abortive coup d'état in Turkey, saying that such stance will promise reciprocal and friendly ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

West Azarbaijan province is the sole bordering province of Iran with Turkey with more than 550 kilometers common border.

The province has three cross border passage of Bazargan-Maku, Razi-Khoy and Serro-Orumiyeh with Turkey.

Because of existing insecurity in Turkey territory following operation of PKK terrorist group Serro-Asendarreh border point was closed several times and shuttle ceased there.
