German director: Iranian movies often screened in int’l festivals

Gramatke made the remarks in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on the sidelines of the 35th Tehran International Short Film Festival which is underway in the Iranian capital city.

'I know that there are a lot of very good and skilled short film directors. Iranian cinema has a good reputation in Germany, often films are screened at international festivals,” she said commenting on Iranian cinema.

Elaborating on the helpfulness of short films, she said “short films may be helpful in a way that a director can try out new things or can realize a smaller project if he or she does not have the budget for a feature film. Commercially speaking short films are not relevant.”

In response to another question regarding the way German filmmakers attract money for their works, she noted that “There are several ways of funding: regional funding, funding by the federal ministry of culture (with a focus on films of cultural value) and funding by the federal film fund (with a more economical focus).”

'Iranian Youth cinema Society (IYCS) organizes Tehran International Short Film Festival every year in October (TISFF).

It is one of the oldest short film festivals not only in Iran, but also in the region.
