In an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Ardabil Disaster and Emergency Medical Management Majid Qaribani said the explosion occured due to gas leakage and short circuit.
He added a mother and two of her children died in the explosion, underlying that the wounded individuals were taken to the hospital.
Qaribani reiterated that the experts are assessing the precise cause of explosion, adding that each year natural gas explosions are claiming several lives and destroying properties in this northwestern province.
He also advised citizens to refrain from using nonstandard heaters and monitor gas pipelines.
