Design and implementation of Ishtar Babel Gate in Persepolis

The Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT) quoted head of the archeological exploration team Alireza Askari Chaverdi as saying on Monday that archeological explorations of this season were conducted with an aim to identify the central room and the extension wall in the northeastern corner of the building of the gateway.

“The discovery of the platforms in the central room of the corridor of the gate together with the lotus flowers decoration and identification of the extension wall located in the northeastern side of the building showed that the plan of the discovered gate was designed exactly on the basis of the plan of Ishtar Babel gateway,” he added.

Asgari reiterated that the discovered building of the gateway within the Firouzi area of the city of Parseh is among the most important research achievements of the cultural heritage in recent decades which was realized with the patronage and supervision of the Archeological Research Center of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism with the cooperation of the University of Bologna of Italy and the Persepolis International Heritage Base.
