Copper, stone era site discovered in western Iran

Head of the archeological explorations team of Tappeh Qeshlaq in the city of Bijar, Kordestan Province Mahnaz Sharifi made the remarks in a meeting held at the premises of the Research Institute of Archeology.

Earlier, cultural communication between the east of Central Zagros and the southern pond of Orumiyeh (Urmia) Lake had been raised in archeological studies but there was no information available on the intermediate location, According to the Public Relations Office of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism (RICHT).

In the entire copper and stone era a large number of symbols of goods in spherical, conical, elliptic, disc, elliptical, hyperbolic and certain other geometric forms have been obtained, Sharifi said.

He went on to say that the discovered archaeological data indicates reliance of the livelihood of the residents of the area had been based on livestock breeding, hunting of wild species and fishing more than farming.

The archaeologist pointed to the absolute and relative chronology in order to identify the exact date of the settlement and cultural layers of the area, survey of the trend of cultural changes of Talvar Valley, study of the impact of natural and local components of the area on cultural specifications of the copper and stone eras and trend of economic-social-cultural changes of the residents of the area in different eras on the basis of archeological data as the initial aims of the exploration.

He pointed to the structure and architectural features discovered in the area saying the architectural texture was symbolic of rituals.

The use of open space at certain times of the year, construction of underground storages on the floor of the rooms and use of plenty of plaster mixture and making the entries compatible with geographical conditions were among its characteristics, Iranian archeologist added.
