“Cohort studies and the national disease registry program significantly contributed to this achievement. These programs provided a huge database for researchers and helped increase their articles’ citations”, said deputy Vice Minister for Research and Technology in Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education Shahin Akhoundzadeh.
“Results of the cohort studies and disease registry program also play a vital role in policy-making for controlling and treating diseases as well as developing treatment protocols”, he added.
Records for cancer, heart diseases, kidney failure, and liver transplantation are kept in disease registry database.
“Over 8,000 scientific articles are indexed in treatment protocols which are another achievement for Iran”, he added.
Akhoundzadeh referred to Iran’s need for 70 comprehensive laboratories and said, “10 comprehensive laboratories were established during 2013-2017 and another 14 laboratories are being equipped currently”.
