Cherry sapling planted in memory of Kiarostami's ‘Taste of Cherry’

Planted on the second day of the Natural Recyclable Resources Week which started on March 5, the cherry sapling is going to remind Kiarostami’s fans of his renowned 1997 minimalist film titled ‘Taste of Cherry’.

Next to the cherry sapling, a monument has also been erected in the memory of Kiarostami, the film director, screenwriter, photographer and film producer who died on July 4, 2016 in Paris, following a heart attack.

Taste of Cherry is a film about a man who drives through a city suburb looking for someone who can carry out the task of burying him after he commits suicide.

The film was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.

The veteran Iranian film-maker was also remembered at this year’s Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles.

Kiarostami is widely felt to be one of the most important directors of the past 20 years.
